The book is called The Trouble with Normal.

It's a group of essays that reflect on the potential issues

of gay men adapting to a heteronormative moral culture.

Actually, this is my bench from 8-8-30.

Oh, I'm sorry.

This is my first time in New York.

Are we going to be boxing ourselves into a place

where we might not be able to lead our fullest lives

if we're operating under this moral umbrella

that was built, you know, thousands of years ago

and was not intended, initially at least,

for gay men and women.

Yesterday at the stillest hour

did the ground get way under me.

The dream began.

The hour hand moved on.

The time piece of my life drew breath.

Never did I hear such a stillness around me

so that my heart was terrified.

So that was sort of the seed

that was planted for this film.

We sort of like evolved and really teased out the concept

into a story about three separate people.

I think in a rough kind of sense,

it's about power and control.
